Love and Prayers…

Friends, colleagues, acquaintances and complete strangers gathered on Monday, February 28th at the Red Rooster in Nashville for a 6 hour tribute showing their love and support of singer/ songwriter Todd Cerney who has touched so many lives in the music industry since his arrival in Nashville in 1974.  Estimated at about 500, members of the crowd played, sang and shared fond memories of Todd through the years.

Along with songwriters, Pam Rose, Mary Ann Kennedy and Pat Bunch, Todd Cerney penned the Restless Heart  #1 classic “I’ll Still Be Loving You” as well as another #1- Steve Holy’s  “Good Morning Beautiful”.

This well-rounded, consummate musician had sung harmony vocals on recordings by Kenny Rogers and Dolly Parton, to name a few, and his compositions have been recorded by Aretha Franklin, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Cheap Trick, Etta James and Levon Helm, among others.

On Monday, March 15th, a short 2 weeks after the Red Rooster event, the talented and loving soul of Todd David Cerney journeyed to its final resting place with the choir of angels. Our thoughts and prayers are with Todd’s wife, Kip Kirby and the extended family of all those who knew and loved him.  The world will certainly miss the music that would have been.

On Monday, February 28th, Restless Heart along with artists Steve Holy, Ty Herndon, Bo Bice and Jeff Bates will come together to headline a night of music, honoring well-known songwriter Todd Cerney, recently diagnosed with Stage IV melanoma.

Todd is a Grammy-nominated songwriter best known for his hits “I’ll Still Be Loving You” by Restless Heart, “Good Morning Beautiful” by Steve Holy, and “No Mercy” by Ty Herndon.

The event will kick off with a series of songwriter rounds and include an appearance by special guest, Peter Noone of Herman’s Hermits.  Also reuniting especially for this fundraiser will be legendary Nashville rock band The Piggys, a Nashville cult favorite that hasn’t played live together in more than 25 years.

The night will include a silent auction with numerous items for bidding, including Todd’s own handwritten, personally-autographed lyric sheets for his two biggest hits, “I’ll Still Be Loving You” and “Good Morning Beautiful.”

The Todd Cerney Benefit Concert will be held Monday, February 28th at the Red Rooster Bar & Music Hall located at 1530 Demonbreun Street, just off Music Row’s Roundabout.  There is plenty of free parking across the street.  Doors open at 6 PM with music starting at 6:30 PM.  Admission is $15 at the door, and all proceeds from the event will go toward the mounting medical bills for Todd’s illness.

Donations may be made at any time to the Friends of Todd Cerney account through Regions Bank in Nashville.  For branch locations, click:   http://www.regions.com/locator.rf

Heartstrings

Korey, Kris & Wendy Soderman

With each passing year, the list of special stories relating to Restless Heart’s “I’ll Still Be Loving You” continues to grow, and “Sunday on the Waterfront” in West Palm Beach added yet another special memory.  This time, it was for members of the group themselves.

In the center of the dance floor sat a young man with a very simple and sincere love of music.  As the song began, a couple came onto the dance floor, lifted Korey Soderman from his wheelchair and danced with him between them throughout the song.

Korey and his twin brother, Kyle are dramatically different only in the fact that Korey is affected with cerebral palsy while Kyle walks and talks like any other average teenager.  However, this family is anything but average.

Initially inspired by the music of Kenny Loggins, the Soderman family is truly a miracle personified.   Follow these links to learn more about this amazing family.  This love story will touch your heart, as it did ours.

Many thanks to our friend, photographer Randi Radcliff, for capturing the moment.
